Translate a PDF into Czech and keep the original layout
Upload your PDF and Manuce reads each text block with its position and font, then places the Czech translation in the same box, keeping images and backgrounds. You also get an editable Word version, a formatted PDF and plain text. The PDF must contain selectable text, not a scan.
What it costs
For a PDF of about 3,000 words (10 pages), into Czech:
To understand, internal use.
Ready to send, by the general specialist.
Cross-checked. For documents that commit you.
Price for one language, original layout included. VAT not applicable — article 293 B of the French General Tax Code (CGI). The exact quote, based on your file's word count, is shown before you pay.
What Czech changes in a PDF
Czech uses the Latin alphabet and runs left to right, so the re-laid PDF is produced, unlike right-to-left scripts. The real issue is diacritics: the háček (č š ž ř ě ď ť ň), the čárka (á é í ó ú ý) and the kroužek (ů).
Many PDFs embed only a subset of each font: just the characters the original document used. An English or German report never needs « ř » or « ů », so those glyphs are often missing. Manuce sets the translation in the original font or an equivalent one; in a decorative heading font, the substitute may be noticeable. Check headings and the cover page first.
Length is the second point. Czech has no articles, but its words tend to be long and its case endings lengthen noun phrases (ve smlouvě o dílo, "in the contract for work"). Coming from English, Czech text is frequently longer. When the translation overflows its original box, the text size is reduced until it fits, which can leave narrow table cells or footers in very small type.
Czech conventions your translated PDF should follow
A Czech document reads as native only if it follows local conventions, which differ from English ones:
- Numbers: decimal comma and a space for thousands,
12 450,50 Kč, with the currency after the amount. - Dates: day, month and year separated by a full stop and a space,
12. 3. 2025. - Quotation marks: low then high,
„smlouva“. - Headings: only the first word is capitalised, Výroční zpráva o hospodaření; English title case looks wrong.
- One-letter prepositions:
v, k, s, z, o, u, a, ishould not be left dangling at the end of a line, which can happen when text is recomposed inside a box.
Plurals have several forms: 1 strana, 2 strany, 5 stran, plus a form for decimals, 1,5 strany. A template such as "Pages: {n}" cannot be covered by a single string. Register matters too: letters and contracts use the formal address (vykání), often with a capitalised Vy in correspondence.
What Manuce delivers, and what it does not do
For a PDF translated into Czech you receive:
- the original PDF with the source text removed and the translation placed in the same box, in the original font or an equivalent; images and backgrounds stay in place;
- a Word version with editable text, handy for fixing a line break or widening a cell;
- a formatted PDF and the plain text.
Limits to bear in mind:
- A scanned PDF (an image of a page, with no selectable text) is not read. A photographed certificate or a digitised old contract needs to exist as text first.
- Manuce does not provide sworn translations. If a Czech authority asks for a soudní překlad, a translation stamped by a court-appointed translator, this file will not be accepted.
- Plural forms and case endings in automatically filled fields (mail merge) are not recalculated: the fixed text is translated, the inserted value stays as it is.
Preparing the PDF and checking the Czech version
Before uploading, try selecting a sentence in the PDF: if nothing highlights, it is an image. Export the PDF from the source file (word processor or layout software) rather than printing to PDF, so text blocks stay separate.
Czech carries a language supplement: a ×1.25 coefficient applies to the per-word rate, and the quote shown on upload already includes it. Before paying, read the free sample: one paragraph translated at the level you chose. If a product name, brand or acronym must stay unchanged, this is where you see how it is handled.
On delivery, check in this order:
- The characters
ř ě ůin headings and on the cover: no empty boxes, no letter in a different typeface from the rest of the word. - Table cells and footers, where text reduction shows most.
- Amounts and dates:
1 250,00 Kč,12. 3. 2025. - Salutations: Vážený pane Nováku uses the vocative case; a name inserted automatically will not.
If a page needs touching up, work from the Word version rather than the PDF.
In practice
- Check that the text in your PDF can be selected (not a scan).
- Upload the file, choose Czech and a level: the quote appears straight away.
- Read the free sample, especially any terms that must stay unchanged.
- Pay, then download the re-laid PDF, the Word version and the plain text.
- Check the ř, ě, ů characters and any areas where text was shrunk.
Frequently asked questions
Will ř, ě and ů display correctly in the translated PDF?
The translation is set in the original font or an equivalent one. If the document's font does not include these characters, the equivalent is used, which can show in a decorative typeface. Check headings and the cover page first.
Can a scanned PDF be translated into Czech?
No. A scanned PDF is an image of a page with no selectable text, and Manuce does not read it. You need a PDF whose text can be selected, for example one exported from the original document.
What happens if the Czech text is longer than the original?
The translation stays in the original box and its size is reduced until it fits. In a narrow cell the text may end up small; the Word version lets you adjust the layout.
Will a Czech authority accept the translation?
Not if it requires a sworn translation (soudní překlad): Manuce does not produce them. For reading, internal use or exchanges with a Czech partner, the delivered file is suitable.
Why does Czech cost more than some other languages?
Czech is one of the languages with a supplement: a ×1.25 coefficient applies to the per-word rate. The quote shown on upload, based on the exact word count, already includes it.
